Activities
General :
Our activities
are member driven, the Clan Society exists and operates as an extended family,
while the day to day management is overseen by the Executive Council (elected
annually by the members). We organize various functions and activities suggested
by the Clansfolk.
Our Annual
general Meeting in March each year to handles the Societies financial and
statuary obligations, as well as, major policy / constitutional or governance
matters and the election of Office Bearers. We thus do away with regular, boring
“business meetings”, to concentrate on the social educational and fraternal
support of our Clansfolk throughout the year.
We provide
members with (4) quarterly Newsletters covering activities, cultural and
heritage matters, news from around the Clan, humour and pictorial subjects of
interest to Members, and genealogy matters.
We participate
in activities within the local community – Ceilidhs, Highland Gatherings,
inter-clan picnics, functions and annual Kirking of the Tartan, as well as our
own social functions such as Soup luncheons, Clan picnics, and “at homes”,
variously throughout the year.

speaker.
A
new Gaelic Society is being formed in Perth to cater for those who
want to be involved in the Gaelic language and culture .Teaching
institutions in Scotland are very happy to assist, including the
University of the Highlands and Islands.

language using study packs, CD’s or tapes working either alone or as

planned to organise study groups, curriculum, book orders, and hold
events where students can meet other learners and native Gaelic

already Gaelic Societies in Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide which
are successfully using the current learning programmes.

Attention all descendants of the Clan Mackay:
The Strathnaver Museum is at the heart of the
community at Bettyhill in
North West Sutherland; sustaining and preserving the traditions and
history that the people of ‘Duthaich Mhic Aoidh’ Mackay Country are proud of and
wish to safeguard for future generations.’
‘The museum is in the former St Columba church built in 1700 and situated in the former ancient province of Strathnaver; which comprises the parishes of
Tongue, Melness, Farr and Melvich’. The museum represents the history of these
communities. Strathnaver was the ancient homeland of the Clan Mackay and among
the areas of the Highlands and Islands affected by the clearances of the 18th
century’. As such the Clan Mackay is an intrinsic part of North Sutherland's
history and is therefore rightfully represented within the museum and its
dedicated Clan Mackay Room’.
The Strathnaver Museum can be contacted by e-mail:
