About Us

Angus Bristow Village provides self care accommodation and support services for older people and the disabled.

The Angus Bristow Village is situated on 12 hectares at Narellan and is bounded by the Elderslie Estate, Camden Golf Course and the Narellan Bi Centennial Estate. At present there are 38 self care units which are occupied by aged people and three people with a disability in self care managing themselves.

Bus transport is available with a 5 minute walk. A shopping center is situated within 2 kilometers of the village.

Cluster Homes Project
There is a great concern amongst people with disabled children as to what is going to happen when they can no longer care for them. The parents want care provided by an organisation which holds to traditional values and where the accommodation will be in close proximity to them so that contact can be kept. It is intended that the cluster homes would be a cluster of six to eight hostel type units with common areas, kitchen, lounge and laundry.

Philosophy - The proposal is based on the tenet that the disabled person has the same basic rights as other members of the society in which they live. These rights include:

  • Respect for their human worth and dignity.
  • The means to realise their individual capacities for physical, social, emotional and intellectual development.
  • The same availability as other members of the society to services which will support their attaining a reasonable quality of life.
  • The ability to choose their own lifestyle.
  • To participate in decisions which affect their lives.
  • To pursue any grievance in relation to service providers without the fear of services being discontinued through recrimination.
  • To be protected from neglect, abuse and exploitation.
  • It is also understood that needs of people with disabilities who are ageing are often different to those of other senior citizens.
The preceeding proposal takes into account the need for an individualized approach to accommodation; the need for increasing amounts of functional support and the eventual retirement of the disabled person.
