I used the program OTD.EXE V-1.1 (1991) by The Software Construction Co. a lot; Then 64-bit computing arrived and that 16-bit program wouldn't run any more. So I set out to create a replacement for that program's most elementary functions and wrote OTD-CSV.WSF. I did not attempt to deal with non-Gregorian calendars, but it does show events related to Easter and the phases of the moon. The program code demonstrates ADO/Jet access of CSV text files. While I was at it, I also replaced the QUOTE program (V2.4a 1991) by TifaWARE George A. Theall. Quote.vbs it demonstrates random access to a text file.

MOZART V-9.2.2 now can hide 8va/8vb signs which run across a line break. This makes the notation of the second Basset Horn much closer to the original.

I transcribed the very short Scherzo from J.Haydn's Hob.XVI:9 (Piano Sonata No.3). I also came across Muzio Clementi's Preludio alla Haydn (op.19, no.2) which proves some of the points W.A.Mozart made when he commented on Clementi's pieces.

I came across some stuff regarding the USA-Australia Free Trade Agreement and its effects regarding copyright. This has relevance to me because the European American Music Corporation told me in 2004 that I couldn't present the score to Kurt Weill's Threepenny Opera here. I now believe they were wrong.

Someone asked me for a version of No. 24 Il capro e la capretta of Le nozzze di Figaro transcribed to Fmaj. While the evaluation version of MOZART allows anyone to that, I took that request as a trigger to revisit my earlier transcription (2000) where shortcomings of MOZART required explicitly notated ornaments and I replaced them with with proper notation.

After transcribing a lot of Bach chorales and the two alternative arias from WA Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro I needed something with more adventurous rhythms and harmonies - and Dave Brubeck's It's A Raggy Waltz certainly provides those.

I've updated the calendar for Microsoft Word to version 4.20; it is now a template which will automatically run the macro when used. Some small changes were made to avoid opening Outlook twice.

I have now uploaded the last nine chorales which I have transcribed so far from the Riemenschneider collection. There won't be any more in the short term.

I also uploaded Duke Ellington's "It don't mean a thing (if it ain't got that swing)" under the name nilsignificat; see nilsignificat.txt for an explanation.

As I announced before, I've now transcribed the alternative aria to No.12 in Le nozze di Figaro, Un moto di gioia (K.579) in W.A. Mozart's piano reduction. Incidentally, this work is missing from the Mozart Edition, Complete Works, by Brilliant Classics.

The Internationale Stiftung Mozarteum made all scores by W.A. Mozart publicly available on December 11, 2006. I immediately grabbed the alternative arias for Le nozze di Figaro, K.579 Un moto di gioia (for No.12 Venite, inginocchiatevi and K.577 Al desio di chi t'adora (for No.27 Deh vieni). The first one (K.579) also exists in a piano reduction, which I will present here shortly. I'm not sure whether I'll transcribe K.577 as a full orchestra score of 16 pages or whether I should produce my own piano reduction.

XML File Now with Stylesheet

With the help of the ABC, I have now figured out how to construct a XML file which renders reasonably well in a browser which does not provide a RSS Reader mechanism: it's done with a transform and a style sheet. I also introduced Categories - which of course work only with an appropriate RSS Reader; IE7 will do.

On the same day as I left for a three week holiday, MOZART V-9 was released. Now that I'm back, I will upload the harmonized Bach chorales from the Riemenschneider collection which I transcribed using that version. Today, it's the first four: Nos. 1, 3, 20, 21.

Microsoft's XML Notepad 2006 (aka V-2) seems to be a very flexible tool; I'm using it now to create this entry to demonstrate that it can be used to generate RSS files.

No free RSS generators?

It seems there are no properly working free RSS generators out there. Most don't work with an existing XML file; one at least is now orphaned. The most recommended one, FeedForAll, costs a whopping $US40 - too much for me for a tool which I need only occasionally. So I guess TextPad will remain my "RSS Generator".
