2006/2007 YEAR IN REVIEW
This was a very big year for the Club, with lots of events and, for the first time, a couple of events held on the same day that different members attended. This proved to be successful, with members given a choice as to where they would like to be. Our membership remained successfully constant with some members electing to leave our circle and we welcomed in quite a few new members. Although it is early days, the 50 th Birthday of the Mini events committee was established and planning is well on the way for 2009, which will be a very big year. Anyway on to this year.
18 Nov 2006: Sir Alex Issigonis Birthday. A joint run event between all the Mini Clubs in Western Australia to celebrate Sir Alex Birthday. We had over 100 Minis at Manning Park with plenty of games and some wonderful cars to look at. It was truly a great day out and it is just a prelude to 2009.
19 Nov 2006: Shannons Christmas Charity cruise for Kids. Glen and Marie joined a couple of Club Members for this cruise that ended up in Mandurah. There were some really nice cars and alot of presents were donated for the kids. It was a beautiful sunny day and was very enjoyable.
26 Nov 2006: AGM. This year's AGM was moved to the Rockingham Foreshore for the first time. And this proved to be a very successful move. A couple of diehards turned up for Breakfast and helped secure and set up the venue. The meeting went off quite successfully and there were plenty of Mini's that turned up to make the day very enjoyable. The BBQ was a success and it looked like this was the way to go for future AGM's.
13 Jan 2007: Movie Night and BBQ. Nigel and Cindy opened up their House for a BBQ and Movie Night. It was a very enjoyable day with quite a few members enjoying the pool and Nigel's great selection of Movies from a lot of Mini events over the years.
03 Feb 2007: Quiz Night. This event is becoming very popular and is a regular on our Calendar of events. This year we ventured to the Buffalo Hall in Armadale for a night of realising how not brainy you really are. A lot of fun was had by all and some very worthy winners got some great prizes.
10 Mar 2007: Ultra Fast Karts. For all the boy racers, this was an event to be seen at. About sixteen people ventured to Wanneroo to experience first hand the thrill of being in a very fast vehicle driving around the short circuit at Wanneroo. The experience of coming down the hill the first time and wondering if you are going to stop in time for the corner or go through the sand trap certainly got the adrenalin going. It was a great night out and another event that will surface on the events list in the future.
18 Mar 2007: Winery Run: After a long and winding road trip to Kingtree Lodge a group of Miniacs enjoyed a great meal and a wonderful afternoon out. It was a very enjoyable day out with some great scenery and some great mini roads that gave them a good run.
27 Mar 2007: Waikiki Community Fair. Unfortunately, the weather had the better of us on this day and we hope this event can have better luck in future years.
18 Apr 2007: Whoop Ass Wednesday. Another night at the drags for the boy racers with some good times down the quarter mile. Mini's are always a crowd favourite, and the guys and girls had a great night showing their cars.
20 May 2007: Gin Gin British Car Show. We headed to Gin Gin with the hint of rain in the air. Arriving at Gin Gin, we had the pleasure of joining a lot of other Miniacs from around Perth that braved the day. It turned into a very enjoyable day. As usual a lot of cars and a lot of people that admired the show that was put on.
2 Jun 2007: Round the Houses Albany. We got an insight from Rocky as he went “Round the Houses”. Several of our members travelled down for the weekend to watch the cars and help with the weekend. As usual it was a great weekend with some reasonable weather. This is becoming a regular on the yearly planner and one that is becoming harder to get into. So Book early.
16 Jun 2007: 10 Pin Bowling. A great night out for all and sundry with some great bowling. Congratulations to Peter Clarke and the other winners, who were justly rewarded. Who will it be next time. It seems to be shared around very well, with some excellent bowling and lots of great fun.
15 Jul 2007: Festival of Motoring York. Some of us ventured down on the Saturday and stayed at the York motor Inn for a great night out of good food and some great entertainment. Sunday saw the rest arrive to a beautiful day and again lots of people looking at the cars and enjoying the wonderful sights and weather.
22 Jul 2007: MOC Bribe Rally. Another Bribe Rally that was organised to raise funds for the Kids. And raise funds they did. Congratulations to Conno and his organisers for another great event that had doubts about the legality of the winner??? Well it did cost them I suppose.
29 Jul 2007: Winetree Run. A beautiful day greeted us in the morning as we prepared for a pleasant drive to Dwellingup for a great day out with other Club Members. We were greeted and shown a wonderful collection of motor bikes and some wonderful stories. Unfortunately Scott and Rose had some problems on the way back, but with a little coolant and some threat of a tow rope and they were on their way.
5 Aug 2007: Fred's Run to??? What a great day out, for an event that promised a lot and gave more. It was a wonderful drive and we all know where Fred works now. A lot of questions and a great final venue in Mandurah. Congratulations Fred for a very enjoyable day.
2 Sep 2007: 50 th Anniversary of the 1957 Australian Grand Prix. A bit of a confusing day to start with, but there was lots to do on a day that celebrated a Milestone in Australian Motoring History. Members even had a chance to drive on the track (or what was left of it)
16 Sep 2007: Chris's Winery Run. From all reports this was a very enjoyable run to Kingtree Lodge with a pleasant enough day for the drive and a great day out.
21 Sep 2007: Lawn Bowls Rockingham Style. This was an interesting night where we had the lawns to ourselves. My first attempt at this and it certainly gives you a thought as to how these people can consistently put the ball close to the white one without throwing it over the end.
7 Oct 2007: Bathurst Brekky. A regular on the calendar, this is proving to be a very enjoyable day at Ted and Sue Curr's house to watch the “Great Race” Some awesome winners at the sweeps, with the final few cars being auctioned off.
14 Oct 2007: Shannon's Annual Charity Run. A couple of our members braved the conditions to attend this run. A pleasant drive and a lot of charity shown.
21 Oct 2007: Club Capricorn. A pleasant drive on Saturday to Club Capricorn and a wonderful weekend of relaxation and a great meal. Even better was the dozen bottles of wine that each couple was given to bring home. (Watch the raffle prizes, they might get spread around)
21 Oct 2007: Boot Sale. A lot of parts traded hands with some great bargains received by everyone. A lot of Mini's arrived and left and it was a great day out. Rumour has it that Andy was cooking a mean Sausage in a roll.
28 Oct 2007: BMC Leyland Day Spearwood and British Auto Classic Waroona. A split show this year, with a lot of members attending one or the other. Some even managed to take in both events. The weather was kind on both fronts this year. P.E. Tan and Cheun Ling caught up with a few members at Waroona and had a wonderful day out.
18 Nov 2007: Rockingham Spring Festival. This was a quickly organised event that looks to be a regular in future years. The Festival was a success for Rockingham with about a dozen Minis on display for a good day. The sun stayed out and everyone enjoyed it.
