I understand that Clare Baptist Church supports particular missionary work, both overseas and closer to home. What are these ?

Our overseas mission is through our support of communities in Tulca, Arad, Oradea in Romania. We also actively support the Haverhill Schools Initiative, which you can learn more about by clicking here.

So you have links with Romania. Tell me a little about this.

Paul (the minister) went to Romania from the 1st to the 7th June 1999. The purpose of the visit was to see how the communities in Tulca, Arad, Oradea in Romania were faring following our support. The establishment of playgrounds in the kindergartens in Tulca were of particular interest since a donation had been made specifically for this purpose. Paul took these pictures from Romania.

I also hear that you have Mission Awareness Committee. What did they report in 1998?

This last year saw quite a few wonderful things happen regarding mission at Clare. Our fund raising events raised us enough money to meet our commitments to Tulca. We also helped our new friend Floreen and more locally were able to give some money to Steve Watts and the Haverhill Initiative and to a drop-in center in Rushden. Paul (the minister) went to Romania during the year and travelled to Yash where he met Floreen. Floreen was to come over and stay with Paul for 3 weeks in the Autumn when we were able to hear first hand about the conditions in North Eastern area of Romania. We were able to help Floreen buy books and upgrade his computer to help him in his role of Pastor. The Tulca kindergarten will be enjoying a play area with equipment soon, after a donation made specifically for this purpose. We also chose to help support medical work in a hospital in Pimu, our BMS project.

Our fund raising events this year included a Car Rally, the Smartie tubes, a Promise Auction and our annual May Day lunches.

Quite a busy year in all and our thanks for all the support we get in supporting other people who are less fortunate than ourselves.
